Set in the beautiful rolling hills of the sunny Charente, in a hamlet surrounded by sunflowers and grapevines.
Chez Chaillou provides a perfect country holiday setting, equipped to a high standard to provide home from home comfort.
It comprises the owners’ house and private gardens, together with a gite complex comprising three gites, full of charming original features, one sleeping 6 and two sleeping 2/3 + infant/child. As each has its own private patio, they can be rented as separate gites or as a whole for larger groups wishing to retain some independence.
There is a 12m x 6m fenced pool in attractive gardens, and a bakery, post office and tennis court in the hamlet, with a good sized town within 6km.
Chez Chaillou is set in the heart of the rolling hills of the Charente, on the borders of the Charente Maritime, with its sunny micro-climate, influenced by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. The gardens and patios benefit from sunshine all day and some spectacular sunsets can be witnessed over a glass of local wine, with dinner sizzling on the BBQ.
The coast at beautiful Royan is 45 minutes away, and there are many charming towns and villages of interest locally. Cognac (with golf courses), Angouleme and the River Charente, with many boat trips available, are all within 30 minutes drive, as are the beach and leisure lake (good fishing) at Brossac. Horse riding and clay pigeon shooting available locally and the excellent wide, empty local roads provide a challenge to keen cyclists!
There are many excellent restaurants in the immediate area.
The Channel ports of St Malo (5 ½ hrs) and Cherbourg (6½ hours) are an easy drive, even in the height of summer, with Calais, Boulogne, etc a couple of hours further afield, and the airports of La Rochelle (1½ hours) and Bordeaux (1¼ hours) drive, making Chez Chaillou ideal for a weekend break. The town of Barbezieux Saint Hilaire is 6kms away, and this offers a market, supermarkets and a variety of good shops and restaurants.
This is an area for country lovers and lovers of all things French. We are in the heart of wine and cognac country (many local direct sales/tasting opportunities) and the beautiful surroundings provide a peaceful backdrop for a truly relaxing holiday.
