La Platriere Retreat is a farmhouse, renovated to a high standard, offering Bed and Breakfast accommodation with 5 guest rooms, and a Cottage which sleeps up to 6 people. Having 3 acres of gardens and a swimming pool, La Platriere Retreat offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Situated in the Allier department in the region of Auvergne, La Platriere is close to the Troncais Forest, and the borders of Cher and the Nievre, offering the easy reach of the diversity of 3 different regions for the visitor to explore.
Description of Chambres D'Hotes:All guest bedrooms are light and airy, and have private shower en-suites. The property benefits from central heating and there is a wood log fire in the guest lounge during the winter months. We have a large room sleeping up to 4 people (ideal for a family) as well as smaller rooms ideal for 2/3 people. A hospitality tray with tea/coffee facilities is available in each room. The breakfast is continental style and included in the price, with the option of an English breakfast for an additional supplement of 8 euros. Evening meals are available on reservation - the price is 27,50 euros for 4 courses and include coffee.
The cottage at La Platriere offers spacious accommodation of a high standard and sleeps up to 6 people. It has its own private garden and parking space. Inside is designed with your comfort in mind. All bed linen and towels are provided, and for your comfort during cooler months the cottage is well insulated and centrally heated.
The kitchen-diner is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave, electric oven, hob and estractor. The dining-area has french doors which lead out into the private garden and outdoor furniture and barbeque. Open plan beams lead the way into one of the two sitting rooms where for your entertainment are TV, video, music centre and a selection of books, videos and board games. The other sitting room has a good quality bed-settee. The bathroom, with french bath, shower and vanity unit and basin, and separate toilet are located on the ground floor.
A beautiful open-tread oak staircase leads upstairs where there are two adjoining bedrooms. Both have exposed beams and dormer windows look out across the garden to the countryside beyond.
All guests staying in the cottage can enjoy the larger gardens at La Platriere, and are welcome to use the swimming pool, petanque and childrens play area with swings. Well behaved pets are considered. The cottage has the benefit of smoke alarms and emergency lighting as it comes in line with the new regulations regarding health and safety concerning gites in France.
Evening meals are offered in the main house and guests from the cottage are welcome to join the table.
Attractions:We are near the Troncais Forest renowned for being the largest oak plantation in France. Here you have many lakes ideal for swimming, fishing, sailing, canoeing etc. There is also horseriding nearby and the area is excellent for walking and cycling. Locally there are tennis courts and at the nearest town Lurcy-Levis you will find all the usual amenities, ie. shops, restaurants, banks, local market etc. The area is rich in culture and history with many romanisque churches, castles, chateaux and medieval villages which hold medieval fetes and fairs. Brocantes are held throughout the summer months and there are many rural markets to visit. Other attractions are of course the volcanoes of the central massif where you will find stunning scenery, and for the more active, hot air ballooning, paragliding, absailing and white water rafting.
DirectionsLa Platriere Cottage can be found halfway between the village of Valigny and the town of Lurcy-Levis on the D64.
If arriving from the A71, take the exit into St Amand-Montrond and follow the signs to Sancoins, passing through the village of Charenton-sur-Cher, until you reach village of Bessais de Fromental. Here just before leaving the village turn right following the directions to Valigny. Continue to Valigny passing a large lake on your left. At Valigny take the D64 and continue towards Lurcy-Levis for 5kms. You will reach the hamlet of La Platriere. Take the next right at the first set of small crossroad (signposted Chambres d'hotes 20m) We are the 2nd gate on the left.
Coming from Burgundy via the N77, turn off at St Pierre le Moutier, taking the D978 to Lurcy-Levis passing through Le Veurdre. At Lurcy-Levis take the D64 towards Valigny. Continue for 4kms coming to the hamlet of La Platriere. Take the first left at the 2nd crossroads, signposted Chambres d'hotes 20 metres. We are the 2nd gate on the left.
